Anubhav Sinha addresses allegations that IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack gives ISI a clean chit through Osama party scene: ‘That really happened’ | Hindi Movie News

Based on the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, director Anubhav Sinha‘s crime thriller drama miniseries ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ was widely praised, but it also caused controversy when some viewers claimed the show intentionally misrepresented the religious identities of the five terrorists involved in the incident.
Even BJP leader Amit Malviya criticized the series on X (formerly Twitter), saying the creators had made sure viewers would “think Hindus hijacked IC-814” by giving the hijackers “non-Muslim” names.According to a Home Ministry statement dated January 6, 2000, which is accessible on the Ministry of External Affairs website, the terrorists from the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen group really utilized the code names that were used in the series.
The biggest part of Pakistan’s intelligence community, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been the subject of controversy and accusations that it has been whitewashed. Anubhav Sinha himself addressed these issues recently. In an interview with India Today, he was asked whether the show was giving the spy agency a clean chit in a scene where Osama bin Laden, the previous head of Al-Qaeda, throws a party for the hijackers without any ISI agents in attendance.
The interviewer framed this issue by pointing out that ISI’s participation has been emphasized again and time again by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. “That really happened,” Sinha said in response, demonstrating the accuracy of the events portrayed in the show. In addition, he questioned why the interviewer couldn’t acknowledge the substantial research that went into making the show.
The filmmaker explained, “A very serious amount of research has gone into it. Also, at the end of the day, it’s a dramatic narration of an event. I am not writing history. If somebody has to refer to the Kandahar hijack, you won’t refer to this series, but other documents and source materials instead. You don’t go after films for historical references. Films get away with just a disclaimer saying ‘all the characters are fictional’. There are a lot of things in the show that go around the facts because there are no facts available. So, you dramatise it to put it together.”
He went on to say that the way the show depicts ISI’s role in Kathmandu is accurate and that it doesn’t try to give the agency any clean chit. “The series is not trying to be history. I had the right to use the captain’s name, but I didn’t. I changed even his name. It’s a fresh take on what happened. When a conspiracy of this kind is executed, there are a lot of things that have clear answers; there would only be versions,” Sinha added.

Alia Bhatt and her husband Ranbir Kapoor welcomed their baby girl, Raha Kapoor, in 2022. The actress recently shared how motherhood has transformed her life and revealed her struggle to find time for herself while balancing work and caring for her daughter. She also admitted that she hasn’t had a therapy session in the past two months.
Describing her Raha Kapoor, Alia told Allure, “She’s naughty. She’s chatty. She has moments of being shy. She’s just her own person, but she’s very bright.” She added that balancing work and motherhood has been her biggest challenge.
“That’s my main focus. How do I ping-pong between the two and do them well, but also find a way to carve out time for myself, which I’m not able to do. I’ll be very candid right now—there’s no such thing as me time. I’ve not even been able to get a therapy session for the last two months,” she admitted.

Alia explained that while motherhood brings a deep sense of fulfillment, it also comes with constant fear and anxiety about wanting to do things right. She mentioned that in a society like India, where helicopter parenting is common, she follows advice from her parents, who told her that children come through their parents, but their lives ultimately belong to them. “Children come through you. They’re yours, you are a catalyst, you are a source for their life, but their life is not yours. Their life is theirs, and you just need to give them the tools to deal with their life,” she reflected while echoing advice from her parents.
Her experience as a mother may be influencing her acting choices but Alia mentioned that when she signed Jigra, she had just given birth to her Raha. “So I think I was in my tigress mode, where I was like, I need to protect my cub,” she stated.

Alia’s upcoming film Jigra, which she co-produced, revolves around sibling love and protection. Also starring Vedang Raina, the film is set to release on October 11. Alia is also working on Alpha, the seventh installment in YRF’s spy universe, starring alongside Sharvari, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor.

Ishaan Khatter opens up on what he struggles with the most in the industry, ‘The most consistent feedback I’ve received is that…’ | Hindi Movie News

Ishaan Khatter might only be a couple of films old, but has already made a mark in the industry, due to his rich line up of projects, both on the big screen, OTT and even Hollywood. The actor, who made his Hindi debut opposite Janhvi Kapoor in Dhadak (2018), went on to do projects like Pippa, A Suitable Boy and others. However, even after being in the industry for close to 8 years, the actor still struggles with one major drawback – looking too young.

Recently, while talking to indianexpress.com, the actor said, “The most consistent feedback I’ve received is that I look very young.” He carried on, “When I started I was 21.

For the longest time, the most consistent feedback that I would get is that I look very young. For better or for worse, we don’t write a lot of complex and layered roles for young faces and young actors here. So, I was very fortunate that I got to start with the likes of Maji Majidi and Mira (Nair) di two-three years down the line.”
Talking about his career path, Ishaan admits to not planning too much. He said, “I have never been overly strategised. I’ve also largely been lucky and had such opportunities. I have only been six years into my career and I have had wonderful opportunities. I have always strived for my work to be diverse, I was never attached to making a name in any one particular industry. Even now when I am asked, if I want to work more in the West or here, my honest answer is wherever the good work is. I am going to try to make the most of the opportunities that I receive and do justice to them. At the moment I am enjoying this because I think it is a blessing that I got a start that one would idealise and hope to have.”

On the personal front, the actor is rumoured to be dating model Chandni Bainz, with whom he was first spotted in September last year. He recently confirmed that he is in a relationship, however, chose to keep the details private. While he didn’t mention his partner’s name, Ishaan shared insights into why he prefers not to publicly ‘launch’ his relationships.

Reflecting on his past experiences, including his previous rumored relationship with his Khaali Peeli co-star

Ananya Panday, Ishaan told The Dirty Magazine, “I like guarding my private life and I’ll keep it that way, so no hard launches. I’ve been in relationships with actresses — actors (he corrects himself) — and I’ve been in a relationship with someone who is not as established as me so I’m very aware of how it affects the women I’m with. But you can’t control where you’re gonna be seen, where you’re gonna be photographed, when it’s gonna come out, how it’s gonna come out, what people are gonna say… so I’m a bit protective.”
Ishaan also opened up about his personal growth, saying that he believes he is a good partner, despite having flaws. He mentioned that he has worked on improving himself through past relationships, acknowledging that his biggest flaw might be being overly emotional.
Ishaan is currently making his Hollywood debut in the web series The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman. Directed by Susanne Bier, the series is based on the novel by American author Elin Hilderbrand.
