Actor John Abraham and director Nikkhil Advani, who have collaborated on films like ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Satyameva Jayate,’ first worked together on Advani’s 2007 romcom ‘Salaam-E-Ishq.’ The film featured a large ensemble cast with six love stories, including one with Abraham and Vidya Balan as romantic partners. After the film’s failure, John and Nikkhil lost touch and did not speak to each other for many years.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Nikkhil shared, “John and I hardly met after Salaam-E-Ishq.It was only after Satyameva Jaytate where we rekindle our friendship. In between, he was doing his thing and I was doing my thing and we didn’t actually connect.”
‘Satyameva Jayate’ was produced by Nikkhil Advani and directed by Milap Zaveri. The film was a surprise hit, though its 2021 sequel failed to make an impact. They also collaborated on Nikkhil’s directorial ‘Batla House.’ Nikkhil mentioned that he and John Abraham now share a warm friendship, stating, “There is a huge amount of comfort working with him, sitting with him.”
Reflecting on the failure of ‘Salaam-E-Ishq,’ Nikkhil Advani revealed that he was significantly impacted by it. He retreated from Mumbai and isolated himself in his house in Alibaug, avoiding contact even with his daughter.“I ran away from Mumbai and I went to Alibaug. I just went to my bunglow, I just shut everything. I didn’t speak to anyone, not even to my daughter,” he said.
When asked about Abraham’s reaction to the failure of ‘Salaam-E-Ishq,’ Nikkhil Advani said, “We didn’t talk for 20 years (laughs). After Salaam-E-Ishq, I chose not to talk to anybody.” ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’ was released 17 years ago, and ‘Satyameva Jayate’ came out 6 years ago.
Meanwhile, Nikkhil Advani and John Abraham have teamed up for ‘Vedaa,’ which is running in cinemas, the film also features Sharvari Wagh.
